Student Feature: Yan

A1 for O Level Art

Artgrain’s Honour Roll

Yan, our very talented student is moving on to pursue product design at Temasek Polytechnic and this is his sharing of some of his selected art pieces.

Drawing and painting has been my favourite past time. Even in secondary school, I took up art as it is my favourite thing to do and it never stresses me out no matter how difficult it gets. I love to include still-life objects into my pieces which convey a message and prefer doing oil medium as it simulate the “real” over the layers paint. Currently I’m pursuing my studies as a student in product and industrial design in Temasek Polytechnic. I wish to become someone who’s well-known in the areas that I’m working in.

“Transparent, Translucent and Opaque”- Shows that a person can’t be judged by just looking at his face as the nearby objects which layers on top his face shows how he is truly experiencing on the inside.
“Merlion Under My Blanket”- As an international student studying in Singapore for almost 8 years, even cats in my dreams have tails! It shows how things changes/evolves as you get comfortable and adapt to the situation you’re in.
“Pretty Messed Up”- The words ‘pretty’ and ‘messed up’ in the title are unusual as pretty is associated with things that are pleasant and beautiful however the other words contrasts this completely. This expressionism piece shows messy vibrant colours creating a figure.

We are proud of Yan’s achievements and we wish him all the best in his study at Temasek Polytechnic.
